Q fever pre-vaccination screening and vaccination services for eligible workers and other people at occupational risk.
Maffra Medical Centre provides the required blood and skin testing before Q fever vaccination. Vaccination can only proceed when the screening results and clinical assessment indicate that it is appropriate.
Appointments are subject to clinical suitability and current vaccine availability.

Visit one
First Appointment
Your clinician will review your relevant medical and occupational history. The blood test and skin test can generally be completed during the same appointment.
Please tell the clinician if you have:
- Previously had Q fever
- Previously received a Q fever vaccination
- Completed Q fever testing before
- Worked in livestock or meat industries
- A significant allergy or medical condition
- Any other concern that may affect vaccination

Follow-up Appointment
The Q fever skin test is generally assessed approximately seven days after it is administered.
Your clinician will consider the blood test, skin test and medical history before determining whether vaccination is appropriate.
Vaccination may be provided following this assessment when you are eligible and vaccine supply is available.

Who May Need Q Fever Vaccination?
Q fever vaccination is recommended for people aged 15 years and over who are at occupational risk and have not previously had Q fever or received a Q fever vaccination.
This may include:
- Farmers and farm workers
- Dairy and livestock workers
- Abattoir and meat-processing workers
- Saleyard and stockyard workers
- Shearers
- Livestock transport workers
- Veterinarians and veterinary workers
- Agricultural students and teaching staff
- Wildlife and animal refuge workers
- Contractors exposed to high-risk animals or animal products
A clinician will assess whether vaccination is appropriate for your circumstances.
